MAI-SL was established as a loose coalition of civil society organizations to address Goal 10 of the global campaign on the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which states “reduce income inequality within and among countries.” With PAACET as
Chair leading the coalition, MAI-SL aims to ensure that state resources and social services are evenly distributed.
The movement was launched by the UNDP Country Director and attended by key institutions, including Her Worship, The Mayor
of Freetown; the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone; the Sierra Leone Police Service; Oxfam and many
others.

May-September 2018: Regional Consultations – MAI-SL: The Movement Against Inequality in Sierra Leone (MAI-SL) led by a committee of five (5) organizations, including PAACET, conducted three specific activities across the country. PAACET led the
regional consultations in four regions with civil societies, local and district councils etc. The consultation focused on “Influencing the targeting of social protection programmes in favor of the aged, disabled people and youth through funding from taxation and domestic revenue
mobilization. Several other meetings were held to plan the way forward
including the development and validation of a strategic plan for MAI-SL
and the holding of an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Again, in October 2019, PAACET Africa Regional Director guided The
High Level Policy Forum conducted by MAI-SL held at Shangri La, Beach Road, Lumley, Freetown. This Forum was attended by representatives from numerous organizations including Oxfam, the Minister of Labour and
Social Security, National Council for Civic Education and Development, as
well as the members of MAI-SL’s Steering Committee.
